Oliver

The story of dedication to an unwanted cat

,Oliver came to our rescue centre as a stray in 2023 and was in urgent need of medical help.

His eyes were completely closed and infected, any time he did open his eyes, you could see how painful it was for him. He was terrified every time we touched him and he was very difficult to handle, but we hoped this was all because of the amount of pain he was in.

A local vet determined that Oliver needed entropion surgery (a condition where the eyelashes curl into the eyes causing irritation and eventually blindness). After an incredible fundraiser to save Oliver’s eyes, he had surgery, and once he had recovered, he could see the world around him and the kind people that had been caring for him. He soon melted into one exceptionally affectionate cat and not long after, he found his forever home.

Oliver’s Cat Pod shows our dedicated to cats who need that extra bit of support and care during their darkest hours.

Tandie

A heartwarming story of an elderly Spaniel in need

In August 2021 our Animal Welfare Officer received a call about an old spaniel in need of help. Tandie was 14 years old when we rescued her and we had no idea the lovely turn of events that were about to happen. Once we added her microchip details into our system, she flagged up as a puppy that we had rehomed 14 years ago!

Tandie wasn’t in the best condition, she was almost  blind, deaf, with dental disease and arthritis; it was clear that she was at the end of her life, but, we saw life in the old girl yet and set about finding an end of life foster home for her. After advertising her, we couldn’t believe it when a lovely couple came forward explaining that they had adopted from Tandie’s litter and had sadly lost their spaniel the year before. They thought it was fate that Tandie needed a home and they offer to take her on and give her all the love and comfort she deserved in the time she had left.

The old girl thrived with her new family, going from strength to strength and finding joy in every second of the day. Tandie lived for another 18 months after coming into our care and peacefully passed away in March 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Tandie’s kennel will be a safe haven for old dogs who need extra comfort, care and support whilst they wait for a home.

Whisky

A story of a Daschund who was so close to losing his life

,Whisky came to us after his previous owner asked for him to be put to sleep at a local vets. Thankfully, the vets refused and reached out to us instead. We of course welcomed him to our rescue, but once we met him, we became very concerned about his health.

Whisky could barely walk on his back legs and had a prolapsed lens in left eye, his teeth were mostly all rotten and, like most dogs of his breed, he had issues with his spine. But, Whisky proved to us all what resilience dogs can have. Within a few weeks in a foster home, Whiskey’s back legs started to improve and he was well enough that we could remove his dodgy eye and many of his rotten teeth.

Whisky continued to improve and after nearly 5 months in our care, he was well enough to be adopted. He now lives his best life in Cornwall completing ruling the roost in his forever home. Whisky’s kennel represents dogs who have been let down by people but are given a second chance by our charity.

Wonky Waldo

The story of a wonky, beat up old cat, who made a huge recovery

Waldo came into our care as a stray entire male, which is something all rescues see too frequently.

He was covered in battle scars, had injuries all over his little body, was in desperate need of food and couldn’t see well due to untreated eyes. If he had been left roaming for much longer, he wouldn’t have survived.

It took a good few months, with a couple of touch and go moments before he started recovering, but Waldo was a fighter and he soon became a much happier and healthier version of himself. He was later adopted into a new, loving home where he can put his past lonely life behind him.

Entire male cats live a hard and painful life where they spend their lives fighting alone with no home or care. Waldos cat pod will be a safe haven for lost and forgotten cats, where they can recover and recoup until they find their forever home.
