Our Well-being Projects
Our Well-being Projects: Children, Young People and Young Adults
We see working with people of all ages as the way in which we can create positive
experiences and interactions with animals. By bringing people and animals together, we hope to increase wellbeing, confidence and knowledge of animal care and raise awareness of animal welfare issues.
We offer a range of sessions to suit all ages and abilities. Sessions take place at our animal centre in St Columb with our friendly and experienced Education Team.
Young People’s Project:
Sessions are aimed at 11-17 year olds who enjoy the company of animals and who may be facing some additional obstacles in life. Challenges the young people might be facing include: not connecting with mainstream education; experiences of trauma or abuse; experiences of loss or grief; emotional health issues; additional learning needs; low self esteem and self confidence.
The common denominator for the young people who access our provision is that they have a love for animals, and through being involved in the direct care and rehabilitation of rescue animals, they gain so much. Young people will get stuck in with a huge mix of activities including; animal rehabilitation services, dog walking, cat socialisation, creating animal enrichment tools, outdoor learning and team building.
Sessions take place 1 day a week during Term Time, for an initial 6 weeks.
1:1 Sessions:
Our 1:1 sessions are aimed at young people who would benefit from a bespoke, tailored, therapeutic intervention involving supervised contact with rescue animals. These 2 hour sessions are open to children and young people aged 8-18 years and run all year round (Term and non term time)
6 week blocks run all year round (term and non term).
Young Adult’s Project:
Our Young Adults sessions are aimed at young adults aged 18-25 years who are experiencing additional challenges or obstacles. Sessions can be offered on a one to one or group basis. These are 2 hour sessions and are
tailored to individual need.

Testimonials
I have seen my daughter grow in confidence and ability to take on responsibility for her own animal and she is sharing her new animal care knowledge with us in a very mature and informed way!
Thank you for offering my son a place and the whole team for being accepting, understanding and just simply amazing!
My daughter has attended various types of alternative provision; the RSPCA was the one she got the most from and never wanted to miss. She gained a lot of confidence.
