Volunteering

Volunteer For Us

Apply to become a volunteer

The gift of your time is essential to our Centre, either through helping ‘hands on’ or by raising much-needed funds.

If you are age 18 or over, there are several volunteering opportunities you might like to consider and we are very grateful for any help you can provide.

How you can help

At the Animal Centre

We often need help assisting and supporting our staff in the general running of the kennels, cattery and small animal unit, with every day things like:

  • cleaning of kennels, cat pods or enclosures
  • making up enrichments for the day
  • the upkeep of the laundry
  • walking with staff when they walk some dogs
  • spending fun time with the cats so they get used to being around people and being stroked and handled.

Once you sign up as a regular volunteer, we like to fit you into our daily rota, so we always know we have sufficient help available each day.  The Centre operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including public holidays.

At present, we have sufficient volunteers to help with the animal related roles during the week, but have some spaces on weekends.  However, we are always willing to take new applications so we have some additional capacity in reserve in case some of our current team can not longer help.  If you have applied and registered with us, we may not be able to offer you any volunteer slots at the Centre for the time being, but will be in touch when we do need extra help.

We also need help at the Centre with:

  • maintaining the grounds, including mowing, sweeping, gardening and tidying of the outside areas
  • painting and general maintenance
  • small, unskilled DIY repair jobs and redecorating

As we are a self-funded Branch, which is not financed by the National RSPCA, regular fundraising is vital to us, so we also need help with community events and fundraising campaigns.  If you would like to assist with this type of activity, please contact us.

Charity Shops

We have shops in Bude (Lansdown Road), Truro (Little Castle Street) and Newquay (Victoria Parade).  Our Shops are a crucial source of income for the Branch, and all profits come directly to our Branch funds.

Our volunteer retail teams in each shop are always looking for additional help, from just a morning or afternoon a week, to a full day.  Please feel free to call into any of the shops during opening hours to discuss volunteering with them, or pick up an application form.

If you would like more information about any of our volunteering opportunities, please email volunteers@rspcacornwall.org.uk or phone 01637 881455.

Sascha

RSPCA Volunteer

“My name is Sascha. I’ve been an RSPCA volunteer for 15 months. I work in the rehoming cattery where I spend time with the cats to help prepare them for their new forever homes. I really enjoy my time at the RSPCA. I have a great love of the animals that I spend time with but also enjoy the people that I’ve met through volunteering. I’ve formed great friendships and enjoy the interaction with like-minded people. I can wholeheartedly recommend volunteering.”
