Puppy & Dog Training

Welcome to the RSPCA Cornwall Branch’s Puppy and Dog Training! Our Animal Training Team offers a range of classes designed to help you build a strong, positive relationship with your canine companion. Sessions are tailored to your dog’s age and specific training needs, ensuring effective learning in a supportive environment.
Training is carried out by our experienced and enthusiastic dog trainers Lauren and Liam.
Our classes take place outdoors in our secure paddocks, on-site at the RSPCA Rehoming Centre (postcode TR9 6JS).

Specialist Behavioural Support

Need help with more complex behavioural issues?

For dogs exhibiting challenging behaviours such as aggression, separation anxiety, excessive barking, fearfulness, or other complex issues, we offer specialised support through our Clinical Animal Behaviourist. This service involves in-depth assessments and tailored behaviour modification plans carried out by Sarah Tapsell, BSc (hons), MSc (CAB), an ABTC-Registered Animal Training Instructor and CCAB.

Puppy Classes

Get your puppy started on the right paw!

Perfect for puppies under six months old, our classes focus on essential skills and positive socialisation experiences.

  • Eligibility: Open to all puppies under six months. Puppies adopted from our Centre attend this course included in their adoption fee! Non-RSPCA puppies are warmly welcomed.
  • Course Duration: 5 weeks (1 hour per session).
  • Cost: £75 (including VAT). A £10 reduction is available for dogs adopted from the RSPCA Cornwall Centre.
  • Key Skills: Learn vital skills like lead walking, recall, basic obedience cues (sit, down, hand target), promoting calm behaviour around people and other dogs, and safe socialisation practices to build a confident, resilient dog.

Group Classes

For dogs over six months needing general training.

These classes are ideal for adolescent and adult dogs, focusing on refining manners and obedience in a group setting.

  • Course Duration: 5 weeks (1 hour per session).
  • Class Size: Maximum of 6 dogs per class to ensure individual attention.
  • Cost: £75 (including VAT). A £10 reduction is available for dogs adopted from the RSPCA Cornwall Centre.
  • Focus: Improve key life skills and obedience in a friendly group environment.
  • Bonuses:

1:1 Training Sessions
Personalised support tailored to your dog’s needs.

One-on-one sessions offer focused attention to address specific training goals or challenges.

  • Ideal for: Getting dedicated help with recall, lead walking, improving calm behaviour, teaching specific cues, or addressing individual learning needs.
  • Benefit: Provides highly tailored support, focusing entirely on you and your dog.
  • Cost: £50 per hour.
  • Location: Held on-site at the RSPCA in our secure paddocks or at your address (additional charge of £1 per mile from our centre).
