Puppy & Dog Training
We’re now offering Puppy and Dog training classes run by our Animal Training Team. The sessions are tailored to each dog’s age and training needs.
Sessions are overseen by Sarah Tapsell, BSc (hons), MSc (CAB) who is an ABTC- Registered Animal Training Instructor, CCAB.
Classes take place outdoors, on-site at the RSPCA Rehoming Centre (postcode TR9 6JS).
Group classes
- Courses run for 5 weeks.
- The cost is £75 (including VAT). £10 reduction for dogs adopted from the RSPCA Cornwall Centre.
- Group sessions with a maximum of 6 dogs per class.
- Each session is an hour.
- Classes take place outdoors, on-site at the RSPCA Rehoming Centre (postcode TR9 6JS).

1:1 sessions
- 1:1 sessions are also available to support you individually with your dog’s training needs.
- Get help with recall, lead walking, improving calm behaviour and teaching cues.
- 1:1 sessions are a good way to provide more tailored support for your dog’s learning and focus on their individual needs.
- Sessions are £50/hour and are held on-site at the RSPCA in our secure paddocks.

Puppy Classes
- All puppies welcome.
- All puppies under the age of six months that are adopted from our Centre are eligible to attend our puppy training course. The cost of the course is included in the adoption fee.
- Courses run for 5 weeks.
- The cost is £75 (including VAT). £10 reduction for dogs adopted from the RSPCA Cornwall Centre.
- Classes are also available to non-RSPCA puppies.
- Learn key skills such as lead walking and recall, obedience cues such as sit, down and hand target, good and calm behaviour around people and dogs and socialisation so your puppy can become a confident and resilient dog.
- Get a 40-page puppy handbook as a course complement to support you outside of class.

Follow-On Classes
- Follow-on classes are an option after the initial 5 weeks of puppy classes to continue you and your dog’s learning.
- Available to all dogs over 6 months who have had some basic training, even if they haven’t attended our puppy classes.
- Courses run for 5 weeks and cost £100.
- Continue learning by practising and progressing skills, such as recall around distractions, calm behaviour around distractions, cues such as emergency stop and stay, plus continuing to ensure your dog is happy and confident with the world around them.
- Get complimentary handouts to continue learning outside of classes.
We like to remind our adopters and owners that learning for dogs is life-long. However, the sooner you start and the more you practice, the easier it will be throughout your dog’s life.

Clinical Animal Behaviourist Consultation and Sessions
Every dog is unique, and so is every behaviour. We provide in-depth behavioural assessments that help pinpoint your dog’s specific needs and support undesired or difficult behaviours such as aggression, excessive barking, separation anxiety and more.
We offer a package for £300, which includes:
- An initial online assessment using our Canine Behaviour Consultation Questionnaire
- Two initial sessions an hour each with our Clinical Behaviourist face-to-face.
- A report to share with your vet with any recommendations.
Often this service is covered by pet insurance so it is worth checking your policy if you have one.

Information for all classes
- Once the form for your class or session is received and the booking has been made, we will arrange payment by card or bank transfer.
- Courses are held in our outside paddocks. Sessions may be postponed due to bad weather, but we will offer an alternative date to complete any cancelled sessions.
- Anyone bringing a dog for training sessions must be 18 years or over. Children (over 10 years of age) are welcome to attend sessions, but we request an additional adult also attend if children are present please.
